Morena, 5 October (IANS) A religious pilgrimage ended in a tragedy on Sunday, when a tractor-trolley carrying a tractor-trolley overturned by a tractor-trolley carrying devotees near Nandpura on Bamsuli Road in Sabalgarh in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.
Two people, including a woman and a child, lost their lives, while 18 others suffered injuries – four of them seriously.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the victim was returning from the Kaila Devi temple in Sabalgarh in Morena district, which attracts thousands of devotees during the Navratri and Diwali festival season.
Speaking to IANS, the Sabalgarh SDOP (police sub-division officer) Raj Krishna said that the accident occurred when the tractor driver tried to land the vehicle loaded on the slope in the neutral gear. Unable to control the vehicle at a sharp turn, Laden with Trolley -17 passengers – overturns.
“The deceased has been identified as Tulsi Bai (23), the wife of the tractor driver, and Sanjana (12), the driver of the driver’s brother.
Police and local rescue teams reached the spot and rushed the injured to Sabalgarh Civil Hospital.
The officer further informed, “Three patients with serious fractures were sent to Morena District Hospital for advanced care.”
Among the seriously injured people are Preeti (17), Mithilesh (32), Neetu (28), and Kammoda (55), all from the same village and allegedly part of an extended family group.
The tractor-trolley has been seized by the police for investigation.
“After the post -mortem of the deceased, a merge report has been filed and investigation is going on,” the official said.
This incident echoes similar tragedies in Madhya Pradesh, where tractor-trolley-reception is illegally used for passenger transport-which led to deadly accidents.
In April 2023, three were killed and 15 were injured by a tractor-trolley carrying pilgrims in Gwalior district.
Despite repeated advice from the Transport Department, the use of such vehicles for passenger travel due to lack of option is largely in rural areas.
