Two Indians killed in Sharjah building fire, one critically injured

A fire broke out in a nine-storey residential building with 750 apartments in the Al Nahda area of ​​Sharjah on Thursday night. Fires in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have killed five residents and injured 44 others.

According to the Khaleej Times, two Indian residents were among the victims, and their identities have been confirmed by family friends and social workers.

Michael Sathyadass, a sound engineer from India, was one of the two Indian victims.

According to his brother’s tribute on social media, Satya Das worked as a sound engineer at DXB Live at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) and was behind the scenes at concerts by artists including Bruno Mars and AR Rahman played a vital role.

The second Indian victim is a 29-year-old woman from Mumbai who just got married in February this year.

Khaleej Times quoted a friend of the deceased as saying: “They got married in Madinah in February. After the wedding, they moved together to the building in Al Nahda where the tragic incident occurred.”

Her husband remains in hospital in critical condition.

A friend said: “The doctors said his condition is very critical… We are all praying for him.”

The Consulate General of India confirmed its support to the families of the deceased and injured.

Their families have arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to deal with the aftermath.

Ongoing investigation and support

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Social worker Ashraf Thamarassery said the Indian woman may be buried in the UAE after necessary procedures.

DXB Live, the company where Michael Sathyadass works, described him as an employee with “extraordinary dedication and loyalty” whose contributions had a “lasting impact”. They offered support to his family.
