Patna, Nov 24 (IANS) A man was killed by two assailants in a violent mob attack on the outskirts of Patna on Monday evening.
Patna Superintendent of Police (East) Parichay Kumar said that the incident took place between 4.30 and 5 pm in Domanchak village of Gopalpur police station area.
According to City SP, two people riding a bike reached the house of Ashrafi Rai (80) in Domanchak village and opened fire indiscriminately at him.
“After committing the incident, the bike-riding attackers fled from the spot. However, they could not go far. Hearing the noise, local villagers gathered and chased them and managed to stop them. They thrashed the attackers to death. The attackers died on the spot.”
City SP said that a team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has been called to the spot to collect forensic evidence.
Kumar said, “The FSL team has recovered dead cartridges from the first crime scene. We have also recovered bricks, stones and sticks from the second crime scene. Police are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas.”
The injured elderly man, Ashrafi Rai, was shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital in the city, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Sources say that the incident may be related to a land dispute worth Rs 20 crore.
Police are working to identify both the attackers and confirm their background.
Patna Police is investigating the incident and is recording the statements of the deceased victim’s family to find out the exact reason for the murder.
“We have recovered all three bodies and sent them for post-mortem,” Kumar said.
The case of murder and mob lynching in the state capital has created concern.
After the formation of the new government in Bihar and the appointment of Samrat Chaudhary as the Home Minister of the state, there were hopes that crime would be curbed.
However, this latest incident has raised new questions on the law and order situation.
Police say that the investigation is ongoing and more information will emerge as the investigation progresses.
