TVK chief Vijay Slam Stalin, BJP on Tamil Nadu fishermen issue

Chennai, 20 September (IANS) Tamilga Vetri Kazagam (TVK) founder and actor Vijay on Saturday carried forward his political attack during the second phase of his state-wide visit, accusing Chief Minister MK Stalin to accuse MK Stalin to use foreign visits for “personal investment” instead of bringing industries in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing a massive gathering at the Puthur roundabout near the Anna statue in Nagapattinam, Vijay said, “Are these foreign trips to attract investment in the state or secure personal investment abroad?” He alleged that despite the claims of large ticket projects, districts like Nagapattinum suffered from underdevelopment.

Victory was particularly fast on the issue of fishermen’s rights. Criticizing both BJP and DMK, he alleged that the Center adopted “exclusion politics”, behaving as “Indians” from other states, branding people of Tamil Nadu only as “Tamil fishermen”. He accused the Chief Minister that he was limiting himself in letter writing on such cases without taking concrete follow.

The TV leader accused the DMK government of indirectly threatening him by banning his campaign. “We have been told how to sit inside the bus, how high it is to extend your hands, and crowded places are allotted instead of open fields. Chief Minister, Sir, are you threatening me?” Vijay asked, announcing that he would not be frightened. “Instead of being a bogman, I have to face direct elections,” he said.

He also recalled that in the first phase of his campaign, his meeting in Tiruchi was allegedly interrupted after cutting the speaker’s wire, and in Ariyalur, there was a power outage before his arrival. He said, “Such treatment will be completed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi or RSS leader? No, because he (DMK and BJP) have a hidden relationship,” he alleged.

Explaining his decision to campaign on weekends to avoid public inconvenience, Vijay said that he was proud to start this leg from Nagapattinam, which he said, represents traditions of the working class of Tamil Nadu in fisheries and farming and reflects a multicultural ethos. Grill the DMK government for neglect, he pointed to the paddy exposed at the purchase centers directly at the purchase centers directly due to lack of water scarcity, poor facilities in Nagor Andver Government Hospital Maternal Maternity Ward, the absence of a fish processing center, poor facilities at Nagapattinum Bus Stand.

He also demanded regulation of shrimp farms to protect the traditional fisherfok and urged the state to develop Velkani and Nagor in a tourist hub. Vijay reminded the crowd that his political participation was not new, since 2011 his constant advocacy for fishermen’s rights and his support for Sri Lankan Tamils. He apologized to the people of Perambalur, where he could not campaign due to “restrictions” last week, but promised to return.

The sharp comments from the actor to the actor indicated an intense rivalry with both the ruling DMK and the BJP, as his TVK wants to expand its ground level base in the run-up for the 2026 assembly elections.
