TV actor says his friend shot dead in US, seeks help from Prime Minister and Indian Embassy

Television actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee has sought help from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government after her friend was shot dead in the US on Tuesday. He said his friend was walking in the evening when “he was shot multiple times by an unknown (person)”.

“My friend #AmarnathGhosh was shot dead in the St. Louis Academy neighborhood of the US on Tuesday evening,” Ms Bhattacharjee wrote in a post on X.

He said Mr Ghosh was “the only child in the family, mother died 3 years ago and father died in childhood”.

“Well, the reason, accused details and everything is not revealed yet, or maybe except a few of his friends there is no one left in his family to fight for it. He was from Kolkata. Excellent dancer, doing PhD , was taking an evening walk and suddenly he was shot several times by some unknown person, the actor wrote.

Tagging the Indian Embassy in the US, PM Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in her post, the 38-year-old woman said that some friends in the US are trying to claim the body but there is no update about it yet.

The post comes amid incidents of violence against Indians or Indian-Americans in the country in recent months.

Recently, an Indian-origin motel owner was shot dead by a homeless trespasser in Newport city of the US state North Carolina.

On February 10, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT executive died after suffering life-threatening injuries during an attack outside a restaurant in Washington.

Earlier, 25-year-old Indian student Vivek Saini was murdered by a homeless drug addict in the city of Lithonia in the state of Georgia.
