Türkiye says more than 175,000 Syrians return home from December


Ankara:

Turkish internal minister Ali Yralikaya said that a total of 175,512 Syrians voluntarily returned to their country from Turkey.

According to Yolikaya on Wednesday, the number of Syrian people returning from Türkiye since 2017 has now reached 915,515.

These returns, which include 33,730 families, have been “voluntary, safe, dignified and systematic” as men described in manner, the Xinhua news agency.

Yerlikaya insisted that the return process is managed transparently, in which the United Nations High Commissioner is inspected from the UNHCR.

To facilitate the process, Turkey has introduced the authorized exit and re -entry measures and deployed migration representatives in Syria to monitor and support the return on the ground.

Millions of Syrians fled from their country after the outbreak of Civil War in 2011.

According to United Nations data, Turkey, sharing a long border with Syria, became a major refuge, hosting more than 3.6 million Syrians at the peak of crisis.

The Turkish government, which supports the Islamist-led rebels topping the former President Bashar al-Assad government, is expecting to speed up refugees to reduce the stress that generates their presence in some parts of the country.

According to the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, overall, about 400,000 Syrians have returned from neighboring countries since the collapse of Assad.

The agency also said that the struggle had displaced more than a million Syrians within its country, they also returned to their homes.

The dramatic change in the Syrian political scenario began on December 8, 2024, when Bashar al-Assad, who ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after seizing Damascus’ control, effectively ended the Bath Party rule since 1963.

On 29 January, a transitional Syrian administration was announced under the leadership of Ahmed al-Shara, the commander of opposition forces, which excluded Assad.

The new administration dissolved Syrian constitution, security services, armed groups, bath party and Parliament – established the platform for a new political structure.
