Trump urged Netanyahu to end the Gaza war, stop plans for Iran strike amidst the ceasefire

US President Donald Trump has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza and talk about a possible military strike on Iran, CNN reported that his recent phone reflects a source familiar with the conversation.

The phone call on Monday comes amidst Washington’s efforts to secure the nuclear deal with Iran along with the indirect ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and the US.

CNN mentioned that Trump later described the call as “very well, very smooth”, the tensions between the two leaders have grown on the Gaza conflict in recent weeks.

According to CNN, Trump urged Netanyahu to prevent public discussion of a possible attack on Iran and to prevent leaks about respective military schemes.

In response, Netanyahu allegedly told Trump that Iran was cooling through conversation and was not actually committed to any deal.

Meanwhile, the conversation of the ceasefire has shown some movement. Netanyahu convened a meeting of top ministers on Tuesday night, as according to his office, some progress was “some progress”.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gidon Sar also accepted recent advances, although he warned against premature optimism.

On Thursday, Hamas confirmed that it did not dismiss the deal proposed by the US, but sought a strong guarantee against the future Israeli attacks.

The rift between the US and Israel seems deep. The Trump administration recently sidelined Israel during a Middle East visit, a ceasefire deal with Yemen-backed Hothis, who failed to curb the missile attacks on Israel, and lifted restrictions on Syria-Moves, who criticized Israeli officials.

The Trump administration is also working to expand the agreement, aiming to include Saudi Arabia.

However, Riyadh has stated that the generalization with Israel is accidental on the Palestinian state and steps towards a two-state solution.

The US Ambassador to Israel Mike Hakabi told Bloomberg News that the two-state solution is no longer the goal of the US policy citing cultural and political realities.

Earlier in the war, Trump had flown the idea of a “Gaza Riviera” under American control, which would include the transfer of a large part of the Palestinian population from the coastal strip. (AI)
