Washington – US President Donald Trump says he will impose 50 percent tariffs on copper imports – but is not yet saying when it will be effective.
Trump told reporters at a cabinet meeting that “today we are copper” but the President was not scheduled to sign any executive orders today to implement duties.
It is a sign that Trump planned to proceed with a list of regional tariff beyond its current import taxes on steel, aluminum and automobiles.
Trump says he will soon announce duties on pharmaceuticals, but suggests that he will give the manufacturers a year before presenting those tariffs.
Trump’s comments on Monday give their administration more time for business talks after delaying their large -scale global tariff regime.
Trump was designed to implement American duties against countries around the world on Wednesday before Trump pushed back the time limit of August 1.
