Washington:
President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States was interacting with China on tariff, saying that he was confident that the world’s largest economies could make a deal to end a bitter trade war.
“Yes, we are talking to China,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office. “I would say that they have reached many times.”
Trump confirmed that the talks took place since he increased the tariff on China by 145 percent, Beijing retaliated for his broad “liberation day” for “liberation day” worldwide.
But Trump was asked whether he had spoken directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping, despite leaving many signs in the past that he had.
“I never said what happened or not,” he said when asked about the conversation with Xi. “This is not appropriate.”
Pressed by reporters whether Xi had reached him, Trump replied: “You think it was very clear that he has, but we will talk about that soon.”
Trump’s administration has been closed in the war of the sky-high mutual tariff with the superpower rival China, uncontrolled the world markets.
“I think we’re going to do a very good deal with China,” he earlier said at the White House that Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni visited the European Union to negotiate with the aim of ending the American tariff on the European Union.
