Addressing the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in South Korea According to Gyeongju, Trump claimed he had a role in preventing conflict between the two countries, saying he has prevented eight wars since taking office in January 2025.
“I said I’m going to put a 250% tariff on every country, which means you’ll never trade. There’s nothing you can sell for 250. That’s a nice way of saying, ‘We don’t want to trade with you.’ You don’t have to say, ‘We don’t want to do business.’ Trump said, this is very bad.
He said, “They understood it and within 48 hours we had no war, no one was killed. That makes me feel very good. We saved millions of lives.”
The US President praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, calling them “great” people. He also called PM Modi a ‘strict’ and ‘killer’ person.
He also said that he stopped eight wars in eight months for the betterment of humanity. However, he expressed displeasure at not being able to stop the Russia–Ukraine war.
“That will also happen. The US President said, I thought it would be easy because of my relationship with Russian President Putin, but it turned out to be different.
Trump said, “I think it will get done. However, if I had been president (at the time) it would never have started.”
This is not the first time that Trump has claimed to mediate in the four-day conflict between India and Pakistan from May 7 to May 10, after India launched Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist infrastructure and base camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
India has said that there was no mediation by any country to stop the fighting and the ceasefire ‘agreement’ was agreed upon after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) requested his Indian counterpart to stop the military action.
