Addressing the Americas Business Forum Miami in Florida on Wednesday, Trump also claimed that eight planes were “shot down” during the recent military conflict between India and Pakistan, without specifying which country they belonged to.
Till now Trump has been saying that seven planes were shot down during the conflict.
He said that in eight months he ended eight long-running wars, including those in Kosovo and Serbia and Congo and Rwanda.
“Pakistan and India… I was in the middle of a trade deal with both of them, and then… I heard they were going to war. Seven planes were shot down, and the eighth was actually seriously injured… Eight planes were essentially shot down.
Trump claimed, “I said, this is war… ‘I’m not going to make a trade deal with you guys unless you agree to peace.’
“A day later, I got a call saying, ‘We made peace,'” Trump said to applause.
Since May 10, when Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “complete and immediate ceasefire” after “long night” talks brokered by Washington, he has repeated his claim more than 60 times that they “helped” resolve tensions between the two neighboring countries.
India has consistently denied any third party interference.
India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in retaliation for the 22 April Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians.
India and Pakistan reached an agreement on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile attacks.
In his remarks in Miami, Trump further said he helped resolve conflicts between Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Cambodia and Thailand.
“They were all in wars… some wars were 32 years old. One was 38 years old. I dealt with some of them in an hour. There was no help from the United Nations,” Trump said.
He said that around the world, America is building peace through strength “because they know they won’t mess with us. Nobody will mess with us.”
Trump last week also talked about deals made with China as well as Japan and Malaysia.
“All great economic deals, great for everyone,” the US President said.
