The president said in his order that certain agency heads “may determine that certain offices and establishments of their organizations or parts thereof should remain open and certain employees should report for duty on two additional days”.

Trump chose June 19 to complain that “America had too many non-working holidays.”
“Our country is losing billions of dollars keeping all these businesses closed,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The employees don’t want this either! Soon we’ll have a holiday every working day of the year.”
Including December 24 and December 26, there will be a total of 13 federal holidays this year.
Trump declared Christmas Eve a federal holiday during his first term in office in 2019 and 2020. Former President Barack Obama had done the same for December 26.
Congress must pass legislation establishing a permanent federal holiday and the President must sign it into law.
Since his re-election, Trump has made the elimination of DEI programs a centerpiece of his administration, cracking down on diversity efforts in the federal government with a series of executive orders.
Earlier this month, the National Park Service announced it would offer free admission to U.S. residents on Trump’s birthday next year, along with other federal holidays, but excluded Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth benefits.
The new free-admission policy goes into effect Jan. 1 and was one of several changes announced by the Park Service late last month, which also included a higher entrance fee for international visitors.
Other days with free park admission in 2026 are Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Constitution Day, Veterans Day, President Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday (October 27) and the anniversary of the creation of the Park Service (August 25).
