New Delhi, Nov 8 (IANS) Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday wished senior BJP leader and Bharat Ratna awardee Lal Krishna Advani on his birthday and described him as a true statesman whose role in shaping modern India is indelible.
Taking it to the X, Tharoor said, “Wishing the respected Shri LK Advani a very happy 98th birthday! His unwavering commitment to public service, his humility and decency and his role in shaping the trajectory of modern India are indelible. A true statesman whose life of service has been exemplary.”
Earlier in the day, PM Modi met the veteran BJP leader at his residence and wished him on his birthday, wishing him good health and long life.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also wished Advani and described him as an “inspiration for lakhs of BJP workers”.
In his message on the occasion, the Home Minister said, “As a founding member of the BJP and former National President, ‘Bharat Ratna’ LK Advani ji has dedicated his entire life to the nation with utmost selflessness. From strengthening the party at the grassroots level to enhancing the internal security of the country as the Home Minister, his contribution is unparalleled. His leadership during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement awakened national consciousness across India.”
Similarly, former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu tweeted, “On the occasion of the birthday of Shri Lal Krishna Advani Garu, the stalwart personality of Indian politics, the Iron Man and a father figure to me personally, I visited him at his residence in New Delhi and extended my good wishes. Shri Advani Garu’s patriotism, discipline, dedication and unwavering resolve is exemplary for the youth. I pray that God grants him good health.”
Born on November 8, 1927 in Karachi, Advani’s early life was shaped by the trauma of the partition of India.
After being educated at St. Patrick’s School, Karachi and later Bombay Law College, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the age of 14.
Starting his career in journalism as an assistant editor of the weekly Organiser, Advani soon moved into politics, and became one of India’s most influential political thinkers and leaders.
