Jamaica is also expected to receive several inches of rain, while northern areas of Hispaniola, Aruba and Puerto Rico are expected to receive lesser amounts.
More heavy rainfall was expected last Friday and there was a significant risk of flash flooding and landslides in affected areas. Melissa was forecast to strengthen slowly, but U.S. forecasters warned that its track and forward speed were uncertain and that people in the region should remain vigilant.
