New Delhi, Oct 18 (IANS) Tripura has achieved a significant milestone in tribal development by winning several national honors at the National Conference on Aadi Karmayogi Abhiyaan (AKA), officials said on Saturday.

A senior official of the Tripura Tribal Welfare Department said the state was honored with two prestigious national awards โ€“ the best performing state in the implementation of PM-Janman and the best performing state in the implementation of Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (DAJA).

North Tripura district was also awarded as the best performing district under PM-Janman, while Gomti district was recognized for its exemplary performance in both AKA and DAJA, and Unakoti and Dhalai districts earned national accolades for their outstanding contributions under DAJA.

The official said that these honors reflect the unwavering commitment of the Tripura government towards inclusive tribal development and grassroots level empowerment. Under PM-Janman, the state has completed construction of 15,584 houses, construction of 1,632 more is underway; Operation of 141 new Anganwadi centres; Functional tap water connections provided to 38,014 PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group) households.

Under this programme, 11,692 households were electrified through grid connectivity and 1,051 through solar grid; 10 mobile network towers; 18 multipurpose centers and 32 others in progress; Formation and operation of 30 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras; And started construction of 67 roads of 205 kilometers.

The Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, launched on June 15 (2025) as part of the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, stands as India’s largest tribal empowerment campaign, the official said.

Tripura’s saturation camp model has been particularly effective, with over 12.7 lakh participants attending 4,036 camps. The campaign addressed critical needs such as identity documentation, financial inclusion, health coverage and access to social welfare benefits.

According to the official, to ensure district-level pace, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has designated a minister in-charge for each district to promote coordinated and responsive implementation.

The Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan (AKA), conceptualized under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, represents a paradigm shift in tribal governance. Based on the values โ€‹โ€‹of ‘Service, Dedication and Resolve’, this initiative empowers communities in 392 tribal dominated revenue villages of Tripura to create their own development plans.

The plan marks a shift from distributed to citizen-led planning, enabling collaborative governance between citizens, institutions and the state. He said that Tripura’s success in the National Conclave is a testament to the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister and the dedicated efforts of senior officials, district magistrates and field level officials.

President Draupadi Murmu presented the awards at the National Conference organized on Aadi Karmayogi Abhiyan on Friday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Minister of State Durgadas Uike were present in this program. Tribal people, belonging to 19 different communities, constitute one-third of Tripura’s total population of more than 40 lakh.
