Tripura crosses the national average in MGNREGA Mandase last year: official

Officials said here on Tuesday that Aarartala, 30 September (IANS) under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Tripura produced 60 mandis per labor card holder per labor card in the last financial year.

A senior official of the Rural Development Department said that during the financial year 2024-25, the Center had allocated three crore crore mandas (person-daily), but the state government successfully produced 3.53 crore mandas.

In the last financial year 2024-25, Tripura finished seventh in all the states and center areas of the country in terms of Mande generation.

According to the official, in the current financial year 2025-26, the central government has allocated 3.5 crore mandas, which can be further increased through negotiations with the Union Ministry of Development.

By September 29 this year, more than 1.71 crores have already been generated, and each labor card holder has received 31 mandas as per their demand.

During the same period, the Tripura government received Rs 548.18 crore from the Center and distributed Rs 505.83 crore as wages.

The official clarified that there is no financial crisis in implementing MGNREGA in the state.

Quoting the Central Government report, he said that the changing policy on the implementation of MGNREGA has achieved significant achievements in rural development and water conservation under the National Plan last 11 years (since 2014).

During this period (2014-2025), MGNREGA has become the world’s largest social welfare program, with about 8.4 lakh crore rupees and more than 3,000 crore people across the country are generations of employment.

In particular, women’s participation has increased from 48 percent in 2014 to 58 percent in 2025.

Under the scheme, more than 1.25 crore water conservation assets like farm ponds, check dams and community tanks have been made across the country.

These efforts have achieved tangible results, reducing the number of rural blocks.

In addition, under the ‘Mission Amrit Sarovar’, more than 68,000 reservoirs have been constructed or rejuvenated in the first phase alone in the country.
