Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a case under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). She has been ordered to appear in court on February 19.

TMC leader and former Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra has responded to a CBI questionnaire on alleged corruption while raising questions in the House, officials said on Thursday.

The CBI is studying the response and will later send a report to anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal, who has referred the matter to the agency, they said.

The agency is conducting a preliminary investigation into the allegations against Moitra based on the Lokpal’s information.

It is learned that the CBI has also spoken to lawyer Jai Dehadrai and businessman Darshan Hiranandani regarding the investigation.

BJP Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey accused Moitra of raising issues in the Lok Sabha targeting the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in exchange for gifts. He also accused Moitra of compromising national security for financial gain.

Moitra denies any wrongdoing and claims he was targeted for raising questions about Adani Group’s dealings.

The ethics committee report found Moitra guilty of “unethical conduct” and contempt of the House for sharing her Lok Sabha credentials – the user ID and password of the Lok Sabha members’ portal – with unauthorized persons, This has had an irrepressible impact on national security.

A motion moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi in the Lok Sabha said Moitra’s “conduct as a parliamentarian was further found to be inappropriate as he accepted gifts and illegal gratifications from businessmen” , to further her own interests, which is a serious misdemeanor and “her conduct is highly reprehensible.”
