Toronto Staff City is looking for local treasures amidst push to the new old city hall museum

It was billed as a program to demonstrate the treasure hidden by the city of Toronto Staff, but hundreds of people on Saturday investigated the Old City Hall, which was amid growing push to convert the historic location into a local museum.

Kathy Grant, who advocates highlighting Black Canadian stories storiesAmong those who had registered to talk with volunteer experts who were reviewing and assessing historical goods. She brought copies of various documents, photographs and contrast (a publication that is characterized by the attitude of black inhabitants).

“There [are] I find a lot of negative examples of our community. We want to show many positive examples, ”she told Citynuse.

“We want to digitize [the items] And share them with the community and share them with schools so that they have examples of our history. ,

Kathleen and Mark Henning brought a defeat with a matching brooch, a piece of pottery and a monogram from 1879 and an expansion purse with a silver dollar. The item was of the great aunt of the mark and was eventually placed by Kathleen. He said that the purse took great interest from the evaluator.

“We are in the process of downsizing, and so we need to find a house for lots of these items and decide what we can keep and what we can do. They need to be seen by the public, so hopefully we (the item) can put (the item) in the museums or their list because some of them are very precious,” Kaithalen said.

“I think it is really important to know our history and beauty. We can’t share beauty from the past, and the craftsmen of that era were so talented – this is a different level of art.”

For the city of Toronto Museum Director Karen Carter, it is the type of items he and his team members were expecting to come.

“What is the most exciting is that the layer of community cultural practice,” he told Citynuse.

“I think some people join the museums because they are interested in old things for the dead. I am interested in how they are related to those who are alive, who are catching these treasures.”

Dubbed Toronto Treasers, Saturday’s incident is part of a ramp-up slate of programming for Old City Hall. The building, which was mostly constructed in the 1890s, will be Programming on friday until September:

  • The courtyard will have tables and people are welcomed to stay for lunch
  • Public talks organized by experts
  • A photography exhibition

“As we know, Nathan Philips Square always has something always happens in every weekend, so you can come down for him and then walk here,” Carter said.

“Eaton is close to the center. It really seems that if you come to the city you will have a good downtown moment.”

Programming comes between calls to develop a museum within part or all building. Museum has been proposed Kick around for many years,

For the first time in about 40 years, a wedding was held in the former Council Chamber (which was also served as a court when the Old City Hall Court was still working) and could be booked for similar incidents in future. Stunning stained glass arts and old court rooms are also available for viewing. Former holding cells, however, are not yet accessible to the public.

Carter said that converting parts of the building into a municipal museum would be more than a realistic plan to capture the remaining parts with other institutions.

“We are good in those things how you put many things in beautiful old buildings,” he said.

Coun. Josh Matlo is among those in the Toronto City Council, who are emphasizing for the construction of a museum.

He said, “For a very long time, because it has been a courtyard, you have to commit a crime to see this beautiful building and be able to run through this courtyard. Today, we are re -opening it to the public so that the public knows that it is for them,” he told Citynuse.

“We want to make this place conscious. We want to show beauty to people, showing the inner work inside this EJ Lenquers (the architect who designed the building) inside.”

Asked how realistic it would be to establish a museum dedicated to Toronto history, Matlo was optimistic.

He said, “This is realistic. We have transferred the movements to the council, which has been approved to see a museum in Toronto in the Old City Hall, but is now going to get finance, political will and creativity to make it,” he said.

“I believe that we have put the right leadership team together to create a reality, and it is a bit like a teaser trailer to come and go.”

Mattlo said that this “surprised” is in his mind that there is no place in the city that is already similar to other people around the world.

“I want Toronto’s museum to celebrate and share the stories of several waves of immigration that built this city in Old City Hall,” he said.

“There are many personal stories of communities, but we also have a story and I want to bring it to life and share it with the public.

“We have literally warehouses where we have artworks of many stories of our city sitting in the dusty archives. We need to bring those things to the public and share them equally with students, with residents, with visitors.”

On Saturday, people talked about people said that they agree with the proposal to build a Toronto museum.

“There is a hundred percent, a lot of rich history … as far as the black community goes, I want to go here and see more examples here. And it is a great place, a great place,” Grant said.

“Very important,” Mark said.

“I know someone that was born in Toronto and was picked up in Toronto, lived in Toronto, and he is now 68 years old and has never lived.”
