Itanagar, Oct 17 (IANS) Border Roads Organization (Eastern Project) Additional Director General (ADG) Jitendra Prasad conducted a five-day inspection of the infrastructure under ‘Project Arunank’ in the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh. An official gave this information on Friday.
Defense spokesperson Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said ADG Prasad’s five-day assessment of infrastructure under ‘Project Arunank’ concluded on Thursday.
The headquarters of ‘Project Arunank’ is located at Naharlagun and it is involved in road and bridge construction works in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh since 2008.
The ADG along with Chief Engineer Project (Arunank) Brigadier H. Bhattacharya visited the roads under construction in Upper Subansiri district under 23 Border Roads Task Force.
“During the visit, the inspecting officer stressed the importance of road connectivity to ensure seamless movement of troops and equipment and socio-economic development of the border areas,” Lt Col Rawat said.
ADG Prasad highlighted that better roads provide better access to health care and infrastructure for the local population, increase trade and promote tourism to boost the local economy.
He acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of ‘Project Arunanka’ and 23 Border Road Task Force in ensuring connectivity and maintaining the border roads in good condition despite the harsh climatic conditions and challenging terrain.
ADG Prasad also provided valuable guidance on technical and planning matters to all the officers to ensure timely completion of road construction works.
He also met Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General KT Paranaik (Retd) on Thursday and apprised him of the work being done by BRO to improve the border infrastructure in the state.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of BRO as a reliable and long-term partner in the development of Arunachal Pradesh.
A Raj Bhavan official said the Governor said rapid deployment of armed forces, keeping key corridors open throughout the year and well-maintained strategic routes are essential to cost-effectively meet long-term defense infrastructure requirements.
Emphasizing on the cascading impact of road development, Governor Parnaik highlighted that quality roads in border areas are equally important for socio-economic development.
ADG Prasad also interacted with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Manish Gupta and discussed ways to adopt new methods for constructing efficient roads without disturbing the ecological balance.
He held a meeting with State Principal Chief Conservator of Forests P. Subramaniam and discussed ways to expedite forest clearance for upcoming roads planned for development in border areas.
