Tom Hiddleston recalls the man who inspired his performance of iconic Marvel villain Loki.

Hiddleston revealed how he prepared to play the God of Mischief during a Loki casting panel at PaleyFest 2024 on Saturday, via People Magazine.

He revealed he studied Alan Rickman’s memorable turn as Hans Gruber in the 1988 film stubborn, stubborn and James Mason’s spy master Phillip Vandamm in the 1959 classic thriller North by northwest.

“These characters are all about control and revenge,” Hiddleston said of the characters.

“I probably loved those shows as a kid. … I was just drawn to those shows because I thought they seemed to be having so much fun playing these antagonists,” he continued. “That’s part of the charm. They’re very charming even though they’re not the central characters in these movies.”

When Hiddleston first appeared in 2012 The AvengersLoki quickly became a beloved character despite not being the main character. In June 2021, Disney+ thrust him into the spotlight.

The second season of the series, which airs on Disney+, ends with Loki’s transformation.
