Srinagar, 14 July: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Altaf Thakur on Monday launched a bang attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the National Conference, accusing him of reviving “Partition and Dangerous Politics” on 13 July.
“Omar Abdullah is shamelessly involved in the politics of graves to remain politically relevant. By glorifying the events of 1931, he is whitening a day soaking in the blood of innocent Kashmiri Pandits. It is not a tribute-it is not a tribute-it is a calculation.”
He said that the BJP strongly rejects the designation of July 13 as the day of the martyrs. He said, “It was not the day of martyrdom, but one day when the seeds of communal hatred were sown in Kashmir. It marked the beginning of a violent, exclusive story that targeted minorities,” he said.
Thakur cited historical events of cruelty against Pandits. “On this day, four Kashmiri Pandits were raped, murdered, and thrown into Jhelum in Zaina Kadal. Seven more Pandits died in Baramulla. Abdul Kadar, who led the rebellion, did not stand for justice – he carried out a communal campaign, which took the Pandit community marginalized.”
The BJP leader accused Omar Abdullah of double standards. “On one hand, he rolls the red carpet to sell peace for tourists. On the other hand, he indulges in separatist appeasement and communal pride. You can’t have these two ways,” Thakur said.
He said, “It’s not about honoring the past – it’s about inciting unrest. Omar Abdullah and Nekan are trying to ignite the fire that had been extinguished for a long time. They want to sabotage peace and stability that people from Jammu and Kashmir have hugged,” they said.
Thakur said that the BJP will not allow anyone to disrupt the current environment of development and harmony. He said, “We will not remain silent because political opportunists try to poison public spirit for their existence. People from Jammu and Kashmir have moved forward – and therefore the neck should be,” he concluded.
