TN weather forecast: rain for continuing till 5 October

Chennai, 30 September (IANS) The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) in Chennai on Wednesday estimated the formation of a new low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, indicating the continuity of rainfall in Tamil Nadu and other southern states in the coming days.

According to RMC officials, an atmospheric circulation is currently prevalent in the northern parts of the Andaman Sea. Under its influence, a new low pressure system is expected to develop on 2 October around the Central Gulf of Bengal and the Northern Andaman Sea. This system can further strengthen and affect the weather patterns across South India.

The Meteorological Office stated that comprehensive atmospheric circulation also persists on Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Currichal, triggering rain scattered with thunder and esoteric winds in many areas.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and parts of Karikal are sometimes expected to raise liberal rainfall with lightning. The forecast indicates that moderate rainfall may continue in separate pockets of the state till 5 October.

In the last 24 hours ending on Tuesday morning, the Nilgiris district recorded the highest rainfall, with 4 cm in the Bandalur taluk office area. Himalals in Nilgiris and Cherumuli, Yarcoud in Salem, and Mulanginvillei in Kanyakumari district recorded 3 cm of rainfall.

Officials said that this stable rains have helped maintain soil moisture in the mountainous areas, but at the same time requests to take care in the areas suffering from landslides.

The RMC has advised fishermen and coastal communities to be cautious due to the possibility of the season of Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea in the coming days.

The wind speed can be stronger around the water along the coast of Tamil Nadu and with the development of low pressure area. Meteorologists said that while the exact path and intensity of the system would be clear in the next 24-48 hours, its formation can bring more wet weather to the northern coastal Tamil Nadu and internal districts.

Officers are monitoring any local floods and have asked the district administration to be ready.

Rainfall predies when the northeast monsoon season is ready to intensify later in October, the developing system is seen as an early sign of active weather in the Bay of Bengal.
