TN increases pension benefits for freedom fighters and their descendants

Chennai: With a view to respecting the legacy of India’s freedom struggle, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered an increase in extended pension benefits for descendants of freedom fighters and descendants of eminent leaders who play an important role in the freedom movement.

The announcement is in line with the Independence Day pledge of Chief Minister MK Stalin made on August 15 this year.

The state government has formally issued orders to provide ‘special pension’ to the descendants of history data, as Shivgangai Marudhu Pandiyar brothers of Ramanathapuram, Virpandia Kattboman Raghunath Sethupathi, and she as Chidambaranar.

The special pension has been revised above Rs 500, which is already carrying it from Rs 10,500 to Rs 11,000 per month. Increased rates have been effectively effectively designed from August 15, coinciding with the 79th Independence Day celebrations of the country.

The beneficiaries, who are direct descendants of these huge icons of resistance against colonial rule, will continue to receive pension for their lifetime.

In addition, the government itself has also approved an increase in the monthly ‘state pension’ introduced to freedom fighters. The pension has been increased by Rs 1,000, which is increased from Rs 21,000 to Rs 22,000 per month. This growth reflects the government’s commitment to provide maximum financial security to freedom fighters contributing to India’s independence.

Family pension for dependents of freedom fighters has also been amended. The order specifies that the monthly pension for dependents will increase from Rs 11,500 to Rs 12,000.

According to officials, this remedy ensures that families of dead freedom fighters are supported with dignity and recognition for sacrifices made by their predations.
