Guwahati/Augartala, 5 October (IANS) In an interesting political development, tipra Motha Party (TMP) supremo Prideot Bikram Manikya Debarma, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Executive Member (CEM) was emphasized, emphasized the need for regional united in the north-east.
TMP chief Deberma on Sunday attended the swearing -in ceremony of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) President Hagama Mohalri, who took charge as CEM of BTC in Kokrajhar district of Assam on Sunday. BJP ally, TMP leader Debarma, also participated in the election campaign in support of BPF.
The 40-member, politically important tribal autonomous council elections were held on 22 September, in which BPF won 28 seats, while BJP and its allies, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) won five and seven seats respectively.
Thus, BPF excluded Apple from electricity in BTC.
Taking on the social media platform X and Facebook, Debarma wrote: “I met Hagama Mohali at the swearing -in ceremony in Kokrajhar. I am happy that we launched the campaign despite many people, which were against us to see together. Regional unity and voice is a necessity.”
In a TMP post, a joint picture of Debarma and Mohalri is released: “A frame with Hagrama Mohalri (BPF chief and newly elected Chief Executive Member of Bodoland Territorial Council) with Hagrama Mohali with Bikram Manikya in a frame.”
Although Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently claimed that BPF is a partner of the BJP -led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the Mohalri has already made it clear that if UPPL remains a part of the NDA, BPF will not join the alliance.
The BPF chief said, “BJP will have to uplide with NDA. Only then we will be part of the alliance.” In Tripura, a “sweet and sour relationship” continues between the ruling BJP and its ally TMP.
In recent months, clashes have been reported between the workers of both sides, injuring more than 15 BJP members in different incidents.
Prior to the next year’s election for the politically important Tripura tribal areas, the Autonomous Zilla Parishad (TTAAADC), both BJP and TMP are doing different work to expand their base between the tribals.
Recently, in a series of meetings, several hundred TMP members and supporters joined the BJP in the presence of senior party leaders including Chief Minister Manik Saha.
Since 2021, TMP has been controlling 30-member TTAADC, which covers two-thirds of the area of 10,491 sq km of Tripura and has a house of over 12.16 lakh people, of which about 84 percent are tribals.
The TMP accused the BJP government in Tripura, who is accused of failing to work against illegal intruders, agitating for their immediate exile.
The party has also called a 12-hour shutdown in the state on 13 October for its demand.
Meanwhile, a TMP delegation led by Debarma met Chief Election Commissioner, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister of Health, and BJP President JP Nadda in July and August, urging a special intensive amendment (SIR) of Tripura’s election role – which is similar to the practice being held in Bihar.
The delegation discussed with the Home Minister and the BJP President, which to fulfill the constitutional rights of indigenous people for the preliminary implementation of the tripartite agreement signed in March last year and to improve their socio-economic conditions.
The TMP held a demonstration on 9 September to press for its three-point demands in Delhi-the implementation of the erectional agreement, the exile of illegal migrants from Tripura, and the protection of indigenous rights.
The party is demanding a separate state for tribals under Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution for the initial conduct of a separate state and long pending village committee elections within TTAADC regions.
On March 2 last year, the then opposition TMP with a year-long discussion on the Triptite Agreement with the Center and the Tripura government, joined the BJP-led coalition government in the state on March 7 (2024), joined the BJP-led coalition government by adding a new twist in Tripura’s political landscape, TMP, in the state.
Two TMP MLAs – Animesh Debbarma and Brishketu Debbarma – were included in the ministry under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha.
