Tired Rohit Sharma should go on a break: Indian captain sent a clear message before the T20 World Cup. cricket news

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke doesn’t have much to say about Rohit Sharma’s poor scores, but suggests that the ‘tired’ Indian captain should take a break to freshen up ahead of the T20 World Cup. Rohit, who will lead India in next month’s 20-team global showpiece, has scored four single-figure scores in the last five matches for his franchise Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL. The 37-year-old has had an extremely busy season this year, including an intense five-Test series ahead of the IPL for Mumbai Indians, who are almost out of the playoff race this year.

“Rohit, being the intelligent judge of his own performances, will undoubtedly be disappointed, especially given his strong start. In my view, he might be feeling a little tired as well,” Clarke told Star Sports.

“A break to freshen up can do wonders for him, but as the Indian captain and a key player of Mumbai Indians, you are not getting a break. He’s got to find form,” Clarke added.

Rohit played as an impressive substitute in last week’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders, raising some concerns for the Indian camp.

However, he played the full match against Sunrisers Hyderabad three days later.

Clarke said that it is only a matter of time before Rohit gets back to his normal elements as a batsman.

“He was in a very good mood. She’s happy, which is actually a good sign. He doesn’t seem to be struggling with his timing; It’s just a matter of getting out,” he said.

“With a player like Rohit, it is only a matter of time that he regains his form. Hopefully, he’ll stress less and focus on his game because he’s too talented to keep missing time and again. He is at his best when he is timing the ball rather than trying to force it.

Meanwhile, Clarke also praised Rohit’s deputy and MI captain Hardik Pandya for the World Cup, who returned with 4-0-31-3 in the seven-wicket win over SRH on Monday.

“In the last few matches, he has been taking wickets with his bowling and making some adjustments as well. For an all-rounder, success in one department boosts confidence across the board,” Clarke said.

“This aspect is important for Hardik Pandya’s cricket in any format – he needs to contribute with the ball. Initially, he did not bowl as well as was expected or desired in the first half of this tournament. However, in the last three or four matches he has returned to form.” Clarke also said that Pandya used his bouncers effectively which is an essential weapon in his armoury.

“He used his bouncer effectively, which I love to see as it is a strong weapon in his armoury. He executed the fundamentals impeccably, which is beneficial not just for Mumbai but for Indian cricket as a whole as it will improve their overall performance,” Clarke said.
