Timothée Chalamet won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy on Sunday (January 11) because he is Marty Supre.

In his acceptance speech, he thanked the team behind Josh Safdie’s acclaimed film about a young New Yorker’s improbable rise from street hustler to global table tennis icon.

“This category is stacked. I respect all of you,” Chalamet told his fellow nominees.

The victory marked Chalamet’s first Golden Globe win after five career nominations, beating out heavyweights such as Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney.

He ended the night with a personal tribute, saying: “For my parents, for my partner – I love you.”
