Government watchdog the Office for Product Safety and Standards urged anyone who bought the product to stop using it.

Officials said the bottles do not have thermal protection to prevent overheating and will be recalled immediately.

The regulator said: “This product presents a serious fire risk due to the lack of thermal protection to prevent overheating if misused.

“Because no instructions are provided, water may not be added to the product and when the product is plugged in and charged, it could catch fire in the absence of the user, causing harm to consumers and families.”

Additionally, the regulator said the adapter included with the product had incorrect pin sizes and did not meet the requirements of relevant standards.

“This product does not comply with the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs and Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994,” it said.

The model number of the bottle involved is QM-01, and the barcode is 69615846554.

“This product has been recalled by end users. Owners are advised to stop using the product immediately and contact the dealer from which they purchased it to claim compensation,” the regulator advised.

Within the TikTok app, TikTok Shop sells products directly to users.

A TikTok spokesperson said: “Customers’ safety and trust are our top priorities and the product was removed from the TikTok store more than two months ago.

“TikTok Shop’s product safety and recall policy covers product safety concerns raised by users and regulatory government agencies in the UK and other countries. We have removed products that violate our policies.

“Listing of any product recalled by a manufacturer or government agency is prohibited.”
