Chennai, Oct 27 (IANS) Security has been tightened in Coimbatore and Tiruppur ahead of Vice President CP Radhakrishnan’s three-day visit to Tamil Nadu from October 28 to 30, his first official visit to the state after assuming office.
According to official sources, around 1,900 police personnel have been deployed in Coimbatore alone to ensure smooth conduct of the events. The city police has also imposed a temporary ban on the use of drones during the Vice President’s visit as part of security protocols.
Radhakrishnan is scheduled to reach Coimbatore International Airport by a special flight at 9.40 am on Tuesday. He will be welcomed by senior district officials and BJP workers, who have planned a grand welcome for their city leader who holds the second highest constitutional post in the country.
After his arrival, the Vice President will visit the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, where he will be felicitated by the Coimbatore Civic Forum. Later, at 2.30 pm he will pay homage at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Coimbatore Corporation premises.
He will then attend the centenary celebrations of spiritual leader Shantalinga Ramasamy Adigalar at Perur Math before leaving for Tiruppur by road.
In Tiruppur, Radhakrishnan will pay floral tributes at the statues of freedom fighter Kumaran and Mahatma Gandhi.
On Wednesday he will attend a felicitation program at Velayudhasami Kalyana Mandapam in the city. They are expected to return to Coimbatore by road in the evening and depart for Madurai by a special flight at 4.50 pm.
Meanwhile, Tiruppur Police has issued traffic changes to manage vehicular movement during the high-profile yatra.
Heavy vehicles from Dharapuram will be rerouted via Kovilavazhi, Perunthozhuvu and Koolippalayam Junction to reach Uthukkuzhi. Vehicles on Palladam Road will take the Ayyampalayam Junction-Veerapandi Pirivu route before coming back to the main road, while vehicles on Avinashi Road will have to take a left at Thirumurugan Poondi to reach Pooluvapatti-PN Road before entering the city.
Police have urged motorists to follow traffic rules and cooperate with security personnel to ensure smooth conduct of the Vice President’s visit.
