Alexei Navalny’s widow said on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin killed her husband because she vowed to continue his work, three days before he died in an Arctic prison.

“Three days ago, Vladimir Putin killed my husband Alexei Navalny,” Yulia Navalnaya said while holding back tears in a video address released on Monday.

Prison authorities said Navalny died after losing consciousness while walking in the Hapu prison, 2,000 miles (1,200 kilometers) northeast of Moscow and above the Arctic Circle.

“Alexei died in prison after three years of torture and torture,” Yulia Navalnaya said on Monday.

Yulia Navalnaya, who has been by her husband’s side in his fight against Putin for more than a decade, has vowed to continue his work.

“The most important thing we can do for Alexei and ourselves is to keep fighting, harder and harder than before,” she said.

“We need to take every opportunity to fight war, fight corruption, fight injustice, fight for fair elections and free speech, and fight to take back our country.”

She also vowed to find her husband’s killers.

“We know exactly why Putin killed Alexei three days ago… We will definitely find out who committed this crime and how. We will name names and show faces,” she explain.

The Kremlin said earlier on Monday that an investigation into Navalny’s death was ongoing and lashed out at Western governments, saying Putin was responsible for his death.

Russian authorities have so far refused to hand over Navalny’s body to his mother and lawyers, angering his supporters who say it is an effort by a “murderer” to “cover his tracks”.
