Vadodara, Nov 22 (IANS) In a significant step to inspire the spirit of entrepreneurship and self-reliance, a three-day vocational training camp will be organized in the city, where youth will be trained in horticulture and farming skills and how their small efforts can achieve a milestone for the individual and the society.
The training will be conducted under the state horticulture department, with a focus on equipping youth in the age group of 18-45 with planting and gardening skills.
Hans Dudha, assistant director, horticulture department, Vadodara, said, “Participants selected through the Ikhedut portal receive Rs 250 per day as stipend and gardening kits worth about Rs 1,500. The training includes practical skills such as media preparation and plant propagation.”
During the training, gardening enthusiasts will also get guidance and financial assistance from horticulture experts. They will receive a stipend of Rs 750 and a gardening toolkit worth around Rs 1,500.
“Those interested in the program can submit their applications on the i-Khedut portal by December 6 and submit the required documents at the Horticulture office in Raopura,” an official release said.
Last year, at least 90-95 candidates were trained in the subject and horticulture certificates were also handed over.
Under the programme, youth are trained in specialized subjects to achieve employment as well as self-reliance. The innovative design is also likely to have an impact on the urban greenery of the city.
This training given under the Urban Green Mission will introduce the youth to essential techniques ranging from modern gardening to nursery management, kitchen gardening, hydroponics, microgreens, landscaping and garden care.
According to the horticulture department, the curriculum includes practical skills like planting, fertilizer management, disease control, garden pruning, lawn maintenance, and garland and bouquet making.
The three-day training will provide new opportunities for green employment, self-employment and skill development to the youth, and will also have a positive impact on the greenery of the city.
