Gumla (Jharkhand), November 17 (IANS) In a shocking incident, Jharkhand Police has arrested three youths for allegedly gang-raping two minor sisters in Gumla district. Officials gave this information on Monday.
These arrests were made after an intensive operation led by a special team on the instructions of Gumla Superintendent of Police. The accused have been sent to judicial custody.
The arrested persons have been identified as Vishwas Oraon (19), Birbal Oraon (21) and Prakash Oraon (19).
After completing the medical examination and legal formalities, he was sent to Gumla jail. Police said efforts are on to nab the remaining suspects, who are currently absconding.
The incident took place late on Friday evening when two sisters resident of Sisai police station area were returning home on foot after attending a cultural program.
On the way, a person riding a scooter offered them a lift. Instead of taking them home, he took them to an isolated place where five to six men allegedly assaulted and raped them.
The shocked girls managed to return home and informed their family, who lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Gumla’s Bharno police station the next day.
Acting promptly, Gumla SP formed a special team, which used technical surveillance, mobile tracking and local informer network to trace and arrest the three accused.
The investigation is being monitored by women police officers to ensure sensitivity towards the victims.
Medical examination of the survivors has been completed. The officials have assured full legal assistance to the victim’s family.
Additionally, the District Child Protection Unit and Women Helpline are actively coordinating with the family to provide counseling and support.
The police have reiterated their commitment to arrest all the culprits and provide justice at the earliest.
