Montreal – Canada Border Services Agency says it has arrested three alleged smugglers after intercepting a truck carrying 44 foreign nationals in southern Quebec in the weekend.
CBSA says RCMP and Quebec Provincial Police stopped the vehicle along with dozens of people aboard Stanstad, Q. Throughout the night between Saturday to Sunday.
The agency states that both Ogulakan Mercenine, 25, and Dogan Alakus and Firarat Yuksek have been accused of committing, assisting or hating someone for committing offenses under the immigration and refugee protection act and also to help people enter Canada outside a designated customs office.
The CBSA says that most foreign nationals were transferred to CBSA refugee processing center at St. Bernard-D-Likol, where they are subject to immigration examinations.
The agency did not say what happened to the remaining foreign nationals.
The agency says the three suspects will be detained until their case returns to court on Wednesday.
