New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) After Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir police recovered a huge cache of explosives, timers and an assault rifle in Faridabad and arrested two Kashmir doctors, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said those who say terrorism has no religion should pay attention.
Praising the prompt action of the police, Giriraj Singh credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring timely intervention.
“I want to thank the government for taking timely action and arresting the suspect – the credit for this goes to Prime Minister Modi,” Singh said. “Secondly, those who say terrorism has no religion should take note: the man caught is a doctor who appears to be a religious terrorist, who had about 300 kg of explosives that could have shaken not only Faridabad but Delhi.”
The minister said that although the motive behind the conspiracy is still being investigated, the case should serve as a warning to political parties.
“It may be aimed at disrupting the Baba Bageshwar Yatra – I am not sure – but leaders like Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Yadav will remain silent because this doctor represents their vote bank,” he said.
Expressing similar sentiments, Uttar Pradesh minister Anil Rajbhar said political appeasement was emboldening extremist elements.
Rajbhar said, “Those who provide security to rig votes are encouraging terrorists. On the contrary, the government’s decisive actions are aimed at completely eliminating terrorism from the soil of the country.”
While officials specifically denied the recovery of RDX, they confirmed the seizure of explosive materials, timers, assault weapons and ammunition.
Giving details of the operation, Faridabad Police Commissioner Satendra Kumar Gupta said that along with the explosives were 20 timers, four battery timers, an assault rifle, 83 live rounds, a pistol, two magazines and other weapons.
“The operation was conducted jointly with Jammu and Kashmir Police and is still ongoing,” Gupta said, declining to give further details due to the sensitivity of the investigation.
The operation was carried out in Srinagar following the arrest of Dr Adil Ahmed Rather, a Kashmiri doctor who was detained in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, for displaying posters supporting banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Based on information received during his interrogation, a raid was conducted in Faridabad, leading to the arrest of another doctor, Muzammil, a resident of Pulwama (Jammu and Kashmir), who worked at Al-Falah Hospital, where explosives and weapons were kept.
Commissioner Gupta confirmed that investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the seized materials, calling it part of a larger operation against an emerging terror module.
