In the past five months, violent demonstrations and violence have not stopped in Bangladesh. Cases of atrocities against minority Hindus are increasing in neighboring countries. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday issued a warning to Bangladesh’s interim government after being condemned by the Indian government.
Manik Saha said that if the interim government of Bangladesh does not take corrective measures, it will only harm neighboring countries. He said those in power in neighboring countries have forgotten the past and are trying to rewrite history. During this time, Saha urged people to resist attacks against minorities.
People of Tripura made important contribution in 1971 war
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said this while addressing the Sharad Samman ceremony at Ravindra Bhawan. The chief minister urged the people to take a firm stance against attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. He said what was happening in Bangladesh was unacceptable.
He said that the people of Tripura, along with the Indian Army, made important contributions to the formation of Bangladesh through the 1971 Liberation War. Saha said those in power in Bangladesh have forgotten the past and are trying to rewrite history. He also urged people to speak out against the atrocities.
Interim government intensifies attacks on minorities
Sheikh Hasina had to resign as prime minister in July due to violent protests in Bangladesh over reservation issues in June. He left Bangladesh and took refuge in India. Thereafter, an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus was established. However, attacks against ethnic minorities increased in Bangladesh after the formation of the interim government.
