Thomas Frank Cheers to Tottenham Hotspur’s ‘big win’ Borussia Dortmund Had a couple glasses of red wine but admit that must have been the catalyst for consistency.
Dominic Solanke A goal on his first start of the season eased the pressure on Frank following a 2-0 win over 10-man Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
Frank’s seven-month tenure looked set to be coming to an end after Spurs lost at home to West Ham on Saturday, prompting chants from the club’s supporters that he had been “sacked this morning”, but the Danish coach remained at work for the game.
Frank has seen his fortunes with his captain change despite Monday lunchtime talks with key figures not guaranteeing his future Christian Romero The home team took the lead in the 14th minute before Solanke’s close-range shot made it 2-0.
Daniel Svensson had by then been sent off as Tottenham romped home with a first win of 2026, but Frank quickly turned his attention to Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley.
Asked if such a performance proved he was worth sticking around for, Frank smiled and said: “I think it’s to do with the team and everything, but of course I understand the question.
“I always felt like the staff was with us, I thought the players and ownership were with us, and everybody wanted the same thing and we were on the same page.
“We’ve done a lot of things in the right direction and today was a great performance and a big win. Of course, I’m very aware of that, but I’m also very aware that we’ve done that and we need to keep that consistency and turn that around a little bit.
“Like I said, we could have easily won some other games. Now we need to build on that.
“I see a team that is running very, very hard, and I think that’s a very, very good sign. It’s a sign of a healthy culture that we’re building something step by step.
“We could have easily been better the last three games, we just haven’t been, but we’re running hard.
“I think the most important thing is to build on that and do well and beat Burnley.”
With 13 players missing due to injuries, suspensions and absences, Frank adopted a 3-4-3 formation and it paid off.
Asked how he would celebrate, Frank said: “I think two large glasses of red wine are in order and I’m going to enjoy it.”
Dortmund coach Niko Kovac He had no complaints about the outcome, or the fact that Svensson was sent off for a tackle on Wilson Odobert, albeit with minimal force.
Kovac added: “Congratulations to Tottenham for a well-deserved victory 2-0. The first half was not good. Very passive and not aggressive in one-on-one situations, which made the game difficult.”
“We knew the situation. We expected the opponent to be physical but did not play and ended up losing 0-1. Then came the red card, which was a difficult game but in the end the referee showed the red card. The performance improved in the second half but it was not enough.”
