New Delhi, Oct 18 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday dismissed speculations of discord within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections and said the alliance remains united and democratic in its functioning.
Addressing questions about alleged differences among NDA allies, HM Shah underlined that internal discussions and demands are natural in a democratic system and should not be misconstrued as rifts.
HM Shah said, “This is not a military organization but an alliance of democratic parties.”
He said, “They will definitely demand and put forth their opinion. If you call this process of making demands a crackdown, it is not right. Someone must demand – that is how it should be in a democracy. But when a decision is taken, everyone follows it as per the ideology of the alliance.”
His comments come amid reports of differences over seat-sharing and candidate selection among the NDA allies in Bihar, where the political stakes remain high. However, HM Shah insisted that the alliance had run the process smoothly this time with minimal disagreements.
“All nominations have been filed, seats have been allotted and candidates have been finalised,” he said, adding that the NDA has shown organizational discipline and unity.
“If managing one’s cadre or vote bank is being looked at differently, I think it is not right. In the NDA, nominations are being filed, seats are decided, names of candidates are decided, and there has been no rebellion.”
In contrast, HM Shah took aim at the Indian faction of the opposition, suggesting that it had failed to achieve similar clarity or unity.
“No such thing has been done in the Indian faction of the opposition,” he said, implying that the rival faction is still struggling with internal disarray.
HM Shah’s comments reflect the BJP’s broader strategy to project the NDA as a stable, ideologically aligned alliance, especially in contrast to the India Bloc, which has faced public disagreements over leadership and seat-sharing.
With Bihar emerging as a key battleground ahead of the 2025 general elections, the NDA’s internal unity is being deployed as a strategic asset.
