Kolkata: The weather office said that as the strength of Cyclone Montha decreases, districts of South Bengal and Kolkata will receive light to moderate rain on Wednesday.
West Bengal will receive rain due to the indirect effect of the cyclone, which made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday night.
An official at the Regional Meteorological Center in Alipore, Kolkata said: “Due to the impact of the cyclone, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms has been predicted in many districts. The rains will reduce from Thursday. Although the cyclone did not cause any direct impact in the state, the outer bands of the system passed through the West Bengal coast. As a result, the system started raining over South Bengal yesterday. The same pattern will continue today. Yesterday, Kolkata received light rain with gusty winds.”
The official said that along with Kolkata, there is a possibility of rain in East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly districts.
Heavy rain may occur at one or two places on Thursday and Friday, mainly in the western districts of Purulia, Birbhum, Murshidabad, East Burdwan and West Burdwan. The intensity of rain will reduce in South Bengal from Saturday and the sky will clear from Sunday.
Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Malda and North Dinajpur districts in North Bengal are likely to receive light rain towards the end of the day. Rain will increase in this area from Thursday.
There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in all the northern districts on Friday.
