There was a heated argument between Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer England worked hard in Adelaide And Australia strengthened its hold on the Ashes urn.

On a day when the temperature reached 40C and a fresh controversy arose sniko review technologyAt stumps on the second day, England have scored 213-8 runs and are still 158 runs behind Australia’s 371 runs in the first innings.

Australia had started the morning leading at 326-8, but England made heavy rain for the last two wickets as Mitchell Starc scored a crucial half-century to boost the hosts’ total.

Archer was among England’s best bowlers and took two of the last two wickets to complete his five-wicket haul, while conceding only 53 runs in his 20.2 overs. But that wicket fell only after a heated exchange with captain Stokes in the middle.

However, their relationship remained intact later on, when Stokes (45*) and Archer (30*) came with the bat to salvage a ray of hope.

After stumps, England batting coach Marcus Trescothick revealed that Stokes – who had bowled 19 overs in Australia before soaking up 151 balls with the bat – had “broken down” from the heat.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Trescothick said: “He’s tired. He’s cramping often and trying to take in fluids. He’s really struggling to get carbohydrates, he said he felt like he was going to get sick every time.

“He’s pretty broken. The medical team will work on him tonight and get him back in the right frame of mind for tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon praised Australia’s bowling effort. They will return with 11 more overs at the start of the third day before getting a chance to take the new ball after Lyon was instrumental in removing Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett.

“I’m very proud of how the boys did it,” Lyon told TNT Sports. “Pat has been phenomenal as captain as always, but our fast bowlers seeing them score 213-8 in 68 overs is a huge effort, so rest, recover and we’ll have another success in the morning.”
