Former Indian cricketers like Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh also strongly attacked the wicketkeeper batsman over this decision and suggested that if he wanted to bat so low in the order, he should not even be a part of the team. But, now news has come that the reason for Dhoni’s late arrival is injury.

According to a report in Times of India, Dhoni has an injury in his leg muscles due to which he is not able to run on the field for long. Therefore, the experienced cricketer is not keen on batting too early for CSK, as running between the wickets is an issue for them.

A few games ago, Dhoni was criticized for sending back non-striker Daryl Mitchell despite there being a clear double possibility. In the same game, Dhoni was later run-out, a form of dismissal that is not synonymous with a great cricketer.

“We are virtually playing with our ‘B’ team. Those who are criticizing Dhoni don’t know how much he is sacrificing for this team,” the report quoted a source as saying.

The report further said that if the team’s other wicketkeeper batsman Devon Conway had been available, Dhoni would have rested him for at least a few matches.

It is being told that Dhoni is taking medicines before coming on the field and is trying to reduce his running so that the injury does not increase. Although doctors have advised him to take rest, Dhoni has no option but to play.

Last year also Dhoni had to face a lot of injury problems. He had to play several matches for CSK in IPL 2023 due to a knee injury. After the season ended, Dhoni also went under the knife for the same problem.

CSK has been struggling with several injury problems this season. Devon Conway has already been ruled out while Mathisha Pathirana has also made his comeback due to injury. Even marquee Indian fast bowler Deepak Chahar is unlikely to make a comeback in this campaign due to a leg injury.
