The Transport Committee to argue whether to study the Chinese ship contract of BC ferries

Ottawa – The House of Commons Transport Committee is meeting to decide whether to study the BC Ferry’s decision to buy four Chinese ships.

The BC ferries announced last month that it hired the Vihai Shipyard, the industry of Chinese traders to build four new ships after a five -year procurement process, which did not include a Canadian dialect.

Transport Minister Kristia Freeland sent a letter to his BC counterpart on 20 June stating that he was “disappointed” with the deal and expects BC Ghats to reduce potential security risks.

He also asked the BC government to confirm that no federal money will be removed to buy ghats.

The Canada Infrastructure Bank contributed $ 1 billion to the deal and said in a statement of 26 June that the new ghats would not be purchased “without this funding”.

The meeting of the Transport Committee is scheduled to start from EDT at 12 noon.
