Despite the light-hearted interludes, Mr Macron’s speech focused on the serious challenges facing France’s military in 2026.

These include France’s accelerated rearmament, continued support for Ukraine and its decision to send troops to Greenland to show support for Denmark.

Earlier on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump Shared news from Mr. Macronin which the French leader expressed concern over the president’s continued threats to occupy Greenland.

The message read: “My friends, we are completely united on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I don’t understand what you are doing with Greenland. Let’s work on creating great things: 1) I can arrange a G7 meeting after Davos in Paris on Thursday afternoon.

“I can invite Ukrainians, Danes, Syrians and Russians on the margins 2) Let’s have dinner together in Paris on Thursday and then you come back to us. Emmanuel.”

Macron told reporters he did not plan to speak to the US president in Davos.

In his speech in Davos, Macron said that the EU should not succumb to the “law of the strongest” and that it was shocking that the EU had to consider using “anti-coercion tools” against the United States.

“We do believe that we need more growth and we need more stability in the world, but we do prefer to respect bullies,” he told the World Economic Forum.

“We do prefer science to (conspiracy), and we do prefer the rule of law to brutality.”
