Srinagar, August 12: Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim today inspected the Legislature Hostel Srinagar to collect the first hand evaluation of all the ongoing development and upgrades in the hostels for the convenience of MLAs.
Secretary Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandita; Executive Engineer of various wings; Senior officials of the Legislative Assembly Secretariat and other concerned officials also accompanied the chairman during the visit.
During the inspection, the speaker visited various sections of the new block of the hostel, assessing the speed and quality of civil works, improvement in infrastructure and other facilities. He directed the concerned execution agencies to maintain high standards of workmanship and strictly follow the scheduled deadline. He insisted that public resources should be used efficiently and performs in such a way that reflects both quality and durability.
The speaker also directed the concerned Executive Agency to recently renew the damaged rooms on the basis of the fire on an immediate basis. He also took a strong note of the Lacadic approach in the construction of the compound wall which was damaged during the flood in 2014.
Later, the speaker presided over a brief meeting to review the functioning of the Legislature Hostel.
Speaking during the meeting, the speaker directed the management of the hostel to ensure proper maintenance, regular maintenance and modern facilities in the hostels to meet the contemporary requirements of MLAs. “MLAs are the face of democracy and public and need necessary facilities with dignity, which they deserve”, he said.
He also underlined that the improvement in the functioning of the hostel would not only benefit the MLAs, but will also retain the dignity of the institution served by them.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, the speaker also reviewed various issues of employees of the Legislature Hostel. He directed the Legislative Secretariat officials to conduct the time of DPC meetings of eligible staff members. He also called upon the officials to maintain proper discipline in the hostel and ensure appropriate uniform code for employees.
