India captain Rohit Sharma on Monday lamented the lack of enough recognition for winning a Test series at home and the tendency of critics to go after the team with full force in case of defeat. Rohit stressed the importance of a Test series win regardless of the venue, opposition or conditions, his observation coming after the hosts overcame a trend-setting England team for their 17th consecutive series win on home soil.

Rohit said in the post-match press conference, “Home and away, you can differentiate between the two, but if you win at home, it is not talked about much, it is like ‘Oh no. ‘India must win at home’.”

“If you don’t know then I also know what it means, but yes, as you clearly said winning every series, no matter which team you play against, whenever you play, winning a Test series is a It’s a Test series, it doesn’t matter what the conditions or the country you play in,” he added.

India defeated England by five wickets on the fourth day of the fourth Test here and took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

Rohit, who is enjoying yet another series win on home soil, was not confident that his impressive performance would compensate for the heartbreaking loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup final.

“It’s tough. It’s not easy to play a five-match series. That’s what Test cricket is all about.”

“You find your way, keep fighting, no matter what competition you are in, with the bat or the ball, you have to do that consistently over a period of five to seven weeks.

“So it’s quite pleasant. But again, I don’t want to compare the World Cup and this series win because both are different formats. But I am quite happy with this result,” he said.

‘No information about Bumrah for the fifth test’

With the series under their belt, India may extend the break to fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

“I have no idea. We have not sat down and discussed,” the Indian captain said about his main fast bowler. Who was rested for the fourth Test in line with the team’s workload management.
