The Central Government is celebrating Netaji’s birth anniversary as Valor Day to honor his selfless service towards the nation.
“The Prime Minister is likely to visit Sri Vijaya Puram on January 23 to participate in the celebrations of Netaji’s 129th birth anniversary,” one of the officials said. He is expected to hoist the national flag and deliver a public speech.
He said, it is expected that Modi will pay floral tributes at the statue of Netaji at Marina Park here.
“The Prime Minister is likely to visit Cellular Jail to pay floral tributes at the Martyrs’ Column at Sri Vijay Puram and pay homage to Veer Savarkar,” the official said.
He said the Prime Minister is also likely to visit Campbell Bay to inspect developmental projects in the area.
“Preparations for the Prime Minister’s possible visit to Sri Vijaya Puram are in the initial stages,” a senior police officer said.
Officials said there will be a series of cultural programs at the stadium, with the local administration planning to invite famous singers to perform at the stadium on the occasion of ‘Parakram Diwas’.
The Prime Minister had named two islands – ‘Shaheed’ (Nile Island) and ‘Swaraj’ (Havelock Island) – to honor Netaji’s services to the nation.

The PM also unveiled the model of the national memorial dedicated to Netaji to be built on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island in 2023.
Modi had also named 21 unnamed islands in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands after 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees.
The proposed memorial on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island (Ross Island) will have a museum-cum-interpretation corner, a ropeway, a laser and sound show, a guided heritage path through the historic buildings of the island, a theme-based children’s amusement park and a dining and restro- lounge.
