weather office has issued a strict warning of potential danger to life in parts of northern England and south-western Scotland this weekend, as persistent heavy rain is expected to cause high or deep flood waters.

The alert starts at midnight on Sunday and will last until 23.59 on the same day.
An amber alert for rain has also been issued for Cumbria, starting at 6am on Sunday and lasting until 6pm on Monday.

Those living in areas covered by an amber alert for rainfall should avoid flood water where possible. Forecasters said it is not safe to drive, walk or swim in flood water.

People should also be prepared to avoid traveling by road as conditions are expected to be “potentially hazardous” due to flooding.
The flooding is likely to cause power outages and some communities may be cut off due to flooded roads.
The Met Office advised residents of affected areas to prepare a flood kit, which should include insurance and other important documents, a flashlight and spare batteries, a first aid kit and medical medicines.
The Met Office said kits should also include warm and waterproof clothing, blankets and food and water, along with care for family members or pets.
Multiple yellow alerts are in place for parts of Scotland, including parts of Derbyshire, Durham and Northumberland, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Yorkshire, parts of Wales and Northern Ireland on Saturday and Monday.
