Mumbai, October 1 (IANS) Shiv Sena (UBT) on Wednesday called it a “cowardice” in a BJP -led government at the Center during the arrest of noted climate activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA).
In an editorial with a strong word in the party’s mouthpiece Saamana, the Thackeray Camp said that the government insulted itself by portraying a Gandhian worker as a traitor. “What did the British do differently?” Asked this.
According to the editorial, it was very condemnable that the BJP-led government at the Center is making every effort to portray Wangchuk as anti-national. To justify its case, it announced the Director General of Police to the Director General of Ladakh that Pakistan was behind the Ladakh violence and Wangchuk had relations with Pakistan. The government has made absurd statements that Wangchuk attended a ‘Don’ newspaper program in Pakistan and visited Bangladesh.
“If Wangchuk had gone to Pakistan or Bangladesh, he would not have been not secret through some secret routes. He got a visa for both countries on his Indian passport and participated in social programs there. Similarly, PM Modi once went to Pakistan for the birthday of the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He has given political refuge to the intellectual president of Bangladesh in India,” said the editorial.
It said that Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali also highlighted the government’s lie, saying that Wangchuk’s visit to Pakistan was part of the United Nations Conference. The conference was on the subject of environment and climate change. Wangchuk spoke on climate change at this conference. He went to Pakistan only with the permission of the Government of India. “When this is clear, it is foolish to say that Pakistan has a hand in violence and Wangchuk is responsible for it,” said this.
The Thackeray camp stated that Wangchuk was on hunger strike for the demands of the people of Leh and Ladakh, mainly to include it in the sixth schedule of the Constitution and to include the entire state through democratic means.
It was remembered that it was PM Modi and BJP who had promised the people of Leh-Lakh of the entire state. “But it is quite absurd that instead of fulfilling its promise, the Center detained Wangchuk under the NSA. It is not new that China has entered Ladakh, but is admitting that Pakistan has succeeded in entering there too. It is the government’s failure,” it is alleged.
The Thackeray Camp further said that the influence of ‘Operation Sindoor’ did not go down well with the Pakistanis, as their work of creating terrorism and violence in India is going on.
“What action did PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah take against Pakistan, which was causing violence in Ladakh while India stopped the war with Pakistan, it created a condition that from now on, any attack on Indian territory or violence in Kashmir Valley will be considered as an attack on India, and what will be given now. The piece defended Wangchuk’s Gandhian struggle, arguing that his campaigns highlighted the concerns to be suppressed – increasing unemployment in Ladakh, land assigned to industrialists, land, environmental erosion, and uncontrolled Chinese infiltration.
“Wangchuk continued to raise his voice against all this. He repeatedly flagged off how China has created in -indes in Ladakh. Due to this, PM and BJP were embarrassed and as revenge, Wangchuk was arrested, a traitor was branded,” the editorial claimed.
The Thackeray camp argued that while Wangchuk was convicted for his Pakistani link, those who played India-Pakistan cricket are being presented as sons of the ruling party at the center.
Attracting a sharp contrast, the editorial accused the BJP of double standards. “Those who play cricket with Pakistan are celebrated as the heroes of the ruling party, while Wangchuk-who speaks for the state of Ladakh, warns the nation about Chinese opportunities, and stands for the environment and soldiers of the Himalayas-it is only the essence of Hindutva.
It said, “Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali expressed her anger, which is 100 percent true.”
