Bhopal, Oct 29 (IANS) The five-day winter session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly will begin from December 1 and end on December 5, according to a notification issued by the Assembly on Wednesday.
According to the government notification, the session will start from Monday (December 1), there will be a holiday on December 3 due to the Bhopal gas tragedy.
The session will resume on December 4 and end on December 5.
There will be a total of four meetings during the winter session.
Soon after the notification was issued, the opposition Congress raised questions over the short duration of the winter session of the state assembly.
Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and senior Congress leader Umang Singhar demanded that the duration of the winter session should be extended as the five-day session, which will have only four meetings, will not be enough to discuss public issues.
The Congress MLA alleged that the BJP government has deliberately called the assembly session for a short time.
LOP Singhar said, “This clearly shows that the BJP government is running away from public issues. They (BJP) are not ready to answer on various issues, especially law and order in the state.”
The opposition can raise issues related to farmers and Dalits in the state.
The recent case of a farmer being crushed by a car and his daughters being assaulted in Guna is also likely to be discussed during the discussion in the House.
However, LOP Singhar said that the opposition will corner the BJP government on issues like law and order, atrocities on Dalits and tribals, employment of youth etc.
During an interaction with IANS, the Congress also indicated that the controversial ‘foot washing’ case of Damoh, where a tribal was allegedly forced to wash the feet of a Brahmin and drink the water, will be raised in the House.
Earlier, the House gathered for the eight-day monsoon session beginning July 28.
The opposition raised issues including unemployment, OBC reservation, drug trafficking and fertilizer shortage, among others, through unique protests.
