Raebareli, 6 October (IANS) A Dalit person was cruelly laid out in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh after being wrong for a thief, which was making resentment and political uproar across the state. The police have arrested five people in connection with the incident so far.
The victim, known as Hariom, was allegedly killed by a group of locals with sticks and belts.
According to his family, he was on the way to his in -laws’ house in Dandpur Jamunapur, when a mob surrounded him and started thrashing him, he was suspected to be a drone thief.
Rae Bareli ASP Sanjeev Kumar Sinha confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is going on.
“In Unchahar Police Station area, a case has been filed immediately, and five people have been sent to jail in case of death by one person, who has been killed by some people who have misunderstood him for a thief. The rest of the accused will soon be identified and arrested, and efforts are being taken to get them out,” he said.
Sinha also informed that three police officers, including a sub-inspector, have been suspended for negligence.
Hariom’s wife, Pinky demanded justice to kill her husband. The couple have a four -year -old daughter.
He said, “They caught him and killed him. The accused should be punished in the same way my husband died. I want justice from the government.”
Hariom’s father also demanded death penalty for the accused and called for the action of bulldozers.
“My son was murdered. We came to know on October 2. We demand that the killers be punished and their houses should be demolished with bulldozers,” he said.
The incident has triggered a rapid political response, in which the opposition parties have accused the BJP -led Uttar Pradesh government of failing to ensure the safety of Dalits and marginalized communities.
However, the government has assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
Speaking to IANS, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said, “This is a very sad incident, and I strongly condemn it. Strict action will be taken against them all.
