New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) Criticizing the previous AAP government for misleading the courts on pollution, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Sunday said there is unprecedented enthusiasm and happiness among Delhiites after the Supreme Court’s approval to burst green crackers on Diwali.
“I would give credit to the voters of Delhi for electing the BJP government in the city, which managed to get the apex court’s approval to revive this traditional form of Diwali celebration,” Sachdeva told IANS.
He said, after a long time, the people of the city have elected a government which truly understands their sentiments.
He said, “That is why the government presented its case before the Supreme Court and it is a big thing that the Supreme Court gave permission.”
He said, “The previous government led by Arvind Kejriwal had deliberately presented such facts before the Supreme Court that permission would not be granted.”
“There is excitement and happiness among people, especially children, with the permission of green crackers given by the Supreme Court. And why not? We should follow our tradition and cultural heritage,” he said.
Earlier, Delhi BJP President termed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai’s attempt to mislead people about Delhi’s pollution as unfortunate.
Alleging that spreading misinformation has been AAP’s strategy for the last 10 years, Sachdeva said when the AAP government was in power, it misled the people of Delhi about pollution during Diwali and also facilitated the ban on green firecrackers.
Sachdeva said that the weather in Delhi is currently clear and the pollution level is much lower than in previous years. He said, “This year there will be harmony of culture and environment in Delhi.”
He said the Supreme Court’s decision is not only a relief for the residents of Delhi, but also a positive message to the entire country – that development, tradition and environmental protection can live together.
He said that Aam Aadmi Party keeps doing appeasement politics to please a particular section of the society, which is why the party is now struggling for its political survival in Delhi.
