Mr. Sarma said the Congress has made it easy for the BJP to campaign in Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at the Congress leaders saying those in the opposition who raised their voices against the BJP on television ended up joining the ruling party and therefore were not should be believed.

“Don’t believe what Congress leaders say because those who are more against the BJP on television will eventually join the BJP. People must check the phones of Congress leaders to see if they are related to India The PPP is in touch,” Mr Sarma told reporters on Tuesday.

The BJP won nine out of 14 seats in Assam in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and Mr Sarma said the Congress had made it easy for the BJP this time too. “This time, the Assam Congress has given candidates based on our choice,” Mr. Sarma said.

Later in the day, while addressing an election rally in Karbi Amlong, the Assam Chief Minister also said that the focus of the upcoming elections is “the re-election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.

Assam will go to the Lok Sabha polls in three phases – April 19, April 26 and May 7. Results will be announced on June 4.
